Canon History: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Noctis_Lucis_CaelumPersonality: As much or little as needed to provide sufficient insight into the character’s personality.
Not much is known or shown of Noctis's earlier years. It is said before his accident and the death of his mother, Noctis was a more outgoing child - however, he grew to a very introverted, yet intuitive young man.
On the surface, Noctis can appear as a typical, sheltered, royal twenty year old. He's always had people to look after him, and direct him. In a way he can take such things for granted, especially before the death of his father and the fall of the wall. It takes a series of awful and dramatic events that force Noctis to grow up quickly, and to take responsibility with the burden of his heritage. He was raised with the idea of him ascending the throne constantly carried on his shoulders, it was just the events in the game that made that burden heavier and faster than he would expect. Despite, that, Noctis was never bitter towards any of those burdens. He never held anything against his father or friends, or the world for that matter. It was just things that needed to be done, and for the most part he was willing to do all of that was expected of him.
First, of course, was his engagement toward Lunafreya. He recognized it as a negotiating tactic for the sake of Insomnia. What he didn't catch on was that it was a tactic on his father's part to get him out of the city, and save his life. The engagement didn't burden him much, as Lunsfreya was a childhood friend, the he kept in close contact with. This was done through some magical spiritual shiba inu dogs, that he and Luna were able to use to write back and forth too. He loved Luna, that much was clear - and shown in the ending cutscene that love was indeed past friendship or the burden of a royal marriage.
His father's death after the fall of Insomnia was what really began to kickstart Noctis's journey, both physical and emotional. He used his duty as the true king as a coping mechanism for his father's death. The weight of those feelings never down right said, but shown throughout the first half of the game. Particularly, every time he received a royal arm. There's a lot of showing not telling when it comes to Noctis. Receiving his father's sword from Ravus was in turn a conclusion of his emotional journey when processing the death of his father.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObJBb_zZ1k8. This scene taking part during the dreaded Chapter 13, where Noctis was forced to carry that burden on his own, instead with the aid of of his friends.
The greatest burden that he accepted, was after talking to Bahamut, the Draconian. There he learned that the only way to defeat Ardyn was by his own death. He carries this knowledge during the last chapter of the game with confidence.
His personality is best shown when he's interacting with his closest friends, Prompto, Ignis and Gladio. Each of the men serve to bring out a different trait in Noctis through their interactions with him. With Prompto, his closest and best friend, Noctis tends to be a bit more open with. Which is saying much, considering Noctis isn't particularly open. He doesn't get philosophical with his emotions, but when he does communicate them, they're concise and direct. This is seen mostly during an optional cut scene where Noctis and Prompto are talking on the billboard sign. Prompto allows Noctis to just be Noctis the young man, and not Noctis the Prince/King of Insomnia.
Ignis, in ways, however, knows Noctis the best. He was considered Noctis's caretaker during his younger years. He is able to hold Noctis accountable for his childish quirks without getting under Noctis's skin. Examples are usually teasing Noctis about his hatred for vegetables. Noctis knows that he doesn't NEED to say much when it comes to Ignis. He believes that he older man, after their extensive time together, is capable of reading Noctis like a book. In a way, Ignis acts as emotional rock for Noctis. Why worry about communicating everything when there's always someone who can read you so well? This of course becomes a challenge when Ignis loses his eyesight, and is unable to catch Noctis's nonverbal cues.
Then there's Gladio, who is the complete opposite of Ignis's role. He challenges Noctis to grow up and get past his emotions. The two can be easily frustrated with one another. Both are men of action, but Gladio has no issue with communicating with what he's thinking emotionally - where as Noctis does. It causes the two to butt heads often. The most intense times were when they were confronting Titan and after Lunafreya's death and Ignis's accident. Despite still moving on with his duties, Noctis is going through some obvious emotional and understandable turmoil. For some reason this doesn't seem to be enough for Gladio. It was more than a duty of action in Gladio's eyes but an emotional duty as well. Noctis was the King and he needed to be
their rock for once and not them be his rock.
Despite, all of the conflicts he can have with his friends, they truly are brothers in arms. Their banter and progression in the game written naturally as trudge though the world. They're not opposed to teasing each other, and talking in jest. There's even dick jokes thrown here and there, whenever Noctis does his favorite hobby, fishing. He trusts all three of them with his back and his life - and in turn would do the same for either of them.
By the ten year time skip, and sleeping within the the crystal all that time, Noctis proves that he was both ready physically and emotionally to take o the burden of being the King. He no longer took what his friends offered them for granted, and understood that he alone was not carrying the burden, but that they were there the whole time with him. In the final cutscene, which is theorized to be the after life, Noctis is able to completely vocalize his gratitude for his friends, his brother for sticking with him through it all. He understood that he was never alone in his emotional journey, and that they carried it with him.
Abilities: As copied from the Wiki:
"As the heir to the throne of Lucis, Noctis can wield the power of kings, and those he associates with share into some of his power. Weapons manifest to his use from thin air, and only he can wield the crystalline royal arms of his forebears; the power to wield all of these weapons at once is called Armiger, during which he is empowered by the souls of his ancestors. He can warp short distances, and phase through solid matter. These powers of teleportation can be used for combat. He can collect elemental power from the environment and craft spells that those with him can also gain access to, but his true magical power is only harnessed via the mythical Ring of the Lucii that allows the wearer to wield the power of the Crystal itself in exchange for the user's own life force. The kings of Lucis have forged covenants with the astral gods of Eos, and once Noctis does so he becomes able to call forth the astrals to aid him. "
As far as nerfing goes, Noctis will obviously not be able to summon any of the celestial beings - as they don't particularly exist in this world. This also means not being able to use the Ring of the Lucii. I would like for him to keep all of his royal arms, as they are bound to his being. They're more of a spiritual weapon as they can exist in others with royal blood in them - such as with Ardyn. And even when he lost access to them in one of the game's chapters, upon acquiring a new one, he was able to use it. Each royal arm does in fact have a "bite" back when they're being used. In game they drain Noctis's HP, and must take time to recover from them.
His limit break "Armiger" allows him to summon all of his royal arms at once. He doesn't get the same negative effect as using a royal arm on its on, but being a limit break, it's still well, limited.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Armiger Noctis is capable of "storing" normal items and weapons in his being, but that to is completely limited. He can't store cars or entire camping sets within him. However, it is shown that he can store his fishing rod and possibly his causal clothing. As far as his carry capacity, I'd like to give him the limit of "if he can't carry it in his hands he can't carry it within "himself" " - and he can't carry anymore more than 10 items. This includes his normal weapons and fishing rod. So basically, upon entering LifeAftr, four out of those ten slots are taken. One for his basic Engine Blade, and the other for his fishing rod, fishing tackle, and his clothing set.
Clothing sets give him different types of armor protection.
Also, unless there are places to absorb magic in this world similar to the game, Noctis will not have any sort of offensive magical items to craft.
Inventory: Royal Arms, Engine Blade, an extra set of clothing, fishing rod, and fishing tackle. (Stored magically) 10 Hi potions, 5 Ethers, 5 Phoenix downs a flashlight - Stored in the clothing he wears, which would be damaged.
